Adapted Keyboard: Maltron Single Finger or Head/Mouth Stick Keyboard

http://www.maltron.com/keyboard-info/maltron-mouth--head-stick-keyboard
The Maltron Single Finger/ Head/Mouth Stick Keyboard is designed to be used by students with severe fine motor disabilities. The curved keyboard shape and key layout was designed for minimizing finger or head movement to maximize effort. Thus, this design helps to increase finger/stick speed and decrease any frustration with the task. The keyboard comes in alternative layouts including English-UK, French-Canadian, French, German, Norwegian, Swedish and Spanish.

There have been studies conducted on the amount of distance between characters using a typical QWERTY keyboard and the Maltron Keyboard. The table below shows the amount of characters typed and the distances moved on both keyboards.

Total characters typed 9,635,540
Qwerty distance moved 673.0 Kilometres
Maltron distance moved 449.8 Kilometres

  1. I did not see this type of adapted keyboard in my research. It is interesting to see that there are adjustments for almost all disabilities.
